SAP Data Migration & Upgrade Services

Move to SAP S/4HANA, upgrade your SAP system and move your supply chain data, without stopping your warehouse or your trucks.

SCM Champs helps companies with SAP data migration, ECC to S/4HANA migration and SAP upgrades. We plan the migration, clean and map the data, test your supply chain processes and integrations, and stay with you through cutover and go-live. Our focus is the supply chain side: warehouse, transport, yard and logistics data.

SAP Data Migration and Upgrade Services at a Glance

  • SAP data migration means moving business and supply chain data from an old SAP system, or from non-SAP tools, into a new SAP system.
  • An SAP upgrade moves your existing SAP system to a newer release. A migration moves you to a new target, like S/4HANA. Some projects need both.
  • Most problems come from data quality, mapping mistakes, integrations and weak testing, not from the data load itself.
  • Supply chain data needs extra care: storage bins, stock, handling units, routes, carriers and open orders.
  • SCM Champs is an official SAP partner focused on supply chain, with teams in the US and India.

What Do SAP Data Migration and Upgrade Services Include?

SAP Data Migration

Moving the business and supply chain data you need from your old SAP system, or from other systems, into the new SAP environment.

SAP S/4HANA Migration

Moving from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA, and getting your data, processes, interfaces and custom code ready for it. Our SAP S/4HANA page has more on this.

Moving your current SAP system to a newer supported release, while daily work keeps running.

SAP Data Cleansing and Validation

Finding duplicate, incomplete, wrong or old records before they get into the new system.

SAP Data Mapping and Conversion

Matching your old data fields to the new SAP data model, and changing the data where the new system needs it in a different shape.

SAP Integration Testing

Checking that SAP still talks properly to EWM, TM, BN4L, EDI partners, carriers, warehouse systems and other third-party tools after the move.

When Do You Need SAP Data Migration or an Upgrade?

You're Moving From SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA

SAP's standard support for most ECC systems ends on 31 December 2027. Moving to S/4HANA means your data has to move too, and a lot of it needs cleaning on the way.

Your SAP System Is on an Older Release

Older releases fall out of support, miss security updates and make new integrations harder to build. An upgrade keeps the system supported and easier to work with.

Your Supply Chain Data Is a Mess

Some common signs:

  • duplicate material records
  • wrong or outdated customer and vendor data
  • warehouse data that doesn't match what's on the shelf
  • old transport data nobody uses anymore
  • missing master data
  • different data in different systems

You're Replacing Old Supply Chain Systems

Maybe it's a legacy warehouse system, old transport processes, a pile of spreadsheets, or manual data exchange between tools that don't talk to each other.

You're Getting Ready for SAP EWM, TM or S/4HANA

New SAP supply chain solutions only work as well as the data you put into them. This is often the right time to start the migration and cleanup work.

SAP Migration vs SAP Upgrade: Which Do You Need?

People use these two words as if they mean the same thing. They don't. Here's a quick way to tell:

Your situationWhat you likely need
ECC to S/4HANASAP migration
Existing S/4HANA to a newer releaseSAP upgrade
Data coming from a legacy or non-SAP systemData migration
Replacing an old warehouse or transport solutionMigration plus process changes
Big supply chain redesignMigration, upgrade and new implementation
Poor-quality legacy dataData cleansing before the migration

Put simply, a migration moves your data and processes to a new target system. An upgrade moves the system you already have to a newer version. Some projects need both.

SAP Migration Approaches: System Conversion, Greenfield, Selective Data Transition or Upgrade

If you're moving to S/4HANA, there are a few ways to do it. Each one changes how much data you move, and how.

ApproachWhat it meansBest fit
System conversion (brownfield)Convert your existing ECC system to S/4HANAYour current processes mostly still work
New implementation (greenfield)Set up a new S/4HANA system and move only the data you needYou want to redesign processes
Selective data transitionMove chosen data, processes or company codesYou want to change some areas and keep others
UpgradeMove an existing SAP system to a newer releaseYou're on the right system, just an older version

SAP Supply Chain Data Migration: EWM, TM, Yard Logistics and BN4L

This is where we're different from a general SAP migration company. Wrong supply chain data breaks things fast, so we give it extra attention.

SAP EWM Data Migration

Warehouse data includes storage bins, products, handling units, stock levels and warehouse settings. If you're moving from classic SAP WM to SAP EWM, a lot of this has to be set up again for the new structure, not just copied across. We also check the link between EWM and S/4HANA before go-live.

SAP TM Data Migration

Transport data covers carriers, routes, locations, freight agreements and rates, plus any open freight orders. When you're moving from SAP TM 9.x or the old ECC transport functions, we map all of it to TM in S/4HANA.

Testing EWM and TM Together

Warehouse and transport depend on each other. A delivery that works fine in EWM can still fail when TM tries to plan it. That's why we test the two together, with real scenarios.

SAP Yard Logistics Data

If you use SAP Yard Logistics, we move and check yard data like locations, doors and parking areas, and make sure it lines up with EWM and TM.

SAP BN4L and Partner Data

For SAP Business Network for Logistics, we check carrier and partner data, so tenders, tracking updates and documents keep flowing after the switch.

What Data Is Migrated in an SAP Migration Project?

Data typeExamples
Master dataMaterials, business partners, locations
Customer and vendor dataCustomers, suppliers and carriers, set up as business partners in S/4HANA
Material dataUnits of measure, weights, dimensions, batch settings
Warehouse dataStorage bins, handling units, stock levels
Transport dataRoutes, transport zones, freight agreements, rates
Location dataPlants, warehouses, shipping points, customer locations
Open transactionsOpen purchase orders, sales orders, deliveries, freight orders
Historical dataPast transactions kept for reporting or legal reasons
Configuration-dependent dataData that only works once the new system's settings are in place

Not every old record should move across. What you migrate depends on business needs, data quality, legal rules, your system setup and the target SAP solution. Moving everything just because it's there usually makes the new system slower and messier.

Our SAP Data Migration Process

1. Assess

We look at your current SAP landscape, data sources, integrations, custom code and business processes.

2. Plan

We agree on scope, approach, timeline, who does what and how the cutover will work.

3. Cleanse

We find duplicate, outdated, incomplete and inconsistent data, and work with your team to fix it.

4. Map

We match the fields and structures in your old system to the new SAP system.

5. Convert

We change the data where the new process needs a different format, and fill in what's missing.

6. Load

We load the data into the new system with the right tools for the job, such as the SAP S/4HANA Migration Cockpit.

7. Validate

We check record counts, field values, business rules and stock figures, and compare them with the old system.

8. Test

We test full business processes and integrations, and run mock loads so there are no surprises on the real day.

9. Cut Over

We run the final migration and switch to the new system, usually over a planned weekend or a quiet period.

10. Go Live and Support

We watch the new system closely after go-live and fix any data or integration issues quickly.

Common SAP Data Migration Problems

The data load itself is rarely the problem. These are the things that usually cause trouble:

  • Poor data quality. Bad data in means bad data out, just faster.
  • Duplicate master data, like the same material or carrier set up three times.
  • Wrong data mapping. One field mapped wrong can affect every order.
  • Old data that doesn't fit the new structure, especially when moving from WM to EWM.
  • Custom code the old data relied on, which isn't there anymore.
  • Broken integrations with carriers, EDI partners or warehouse automation.
  • Not enough testing, or testing only with clean sample data.
  • A rushed cutover, with no time for stock counts and no rollback plan.
  • Warehouse or transport work stopping on day one because something got missed.

Most of these can be avoided if you leave enough time for cleanup, mock loads and proper testing.

How SCM Champs Helps With SAP Data Migration and Upgrades

SCM Champs focuses on SAP supply chain and logistics. We help companies get ready for, carry out and settle into SAP migrations where warehouse, transport and yard work can't afford to stop.

Migration Assessment

We review your SAP landscape, data, integrations and supply chain processes. Then we tell you what needs to move, what needs cleaning and what can be left behind.

Migration and Upgrade Planning

We build a practical plan around your business priorities, your busy seasons and your target system, so the timing works for operations too.

Data Preparation

We work with your team on cleansing, mapping, converting, loading and checking the data. Your people know the business. We know how the new system expects the data to look.

Supply Chain Integration Checks

We check the connections between SAP EWM, TM, Yard Logistics, BN4L and your third-party systems, so nothing breaks between them after the move.

Testing, Cutover and Go-Live

We run mock migrations, support your test cycles, plan the cutover with your warehouse and transport teams, and stay close through go-live and the weeks after it.

Why Choose SCM Champs for SAP Migration and Upgrades

  • Official SAP partner. SCM Champs is an official SAP partner.
  • Supply chain focus. We work on supply chain and logistics, not every SAP module.
  • EWM, TM and yard in one team. The same people handle connected warehouse, transport and yard data, so the pieces still fit together after the move.
  • Certified consultants. Our consultants are certified across SAP IBP, EWM, TM and MM, with more than 8 years of hands-on supply chain experience on average.
  • We look at the business side. A migration isn't done when the data loads. It's done when the warehouse ships and the trucks leave on time.
  • US and India teams, with 12 months of support after go-live as standard.

What Does an SAP Data Migration Project Cost?

We don't publish a fixed price, because every SAP landscape is different. These are the main things that drive the cost:

  • how many systems are involved
  • how much data there is
  • how clean that data is
  • the migration approach
  • how complex your SAP landscape is
  • the number of integrations
  • how much custom code there is
  • the EWM, TM and logistics scope
  • how much testing you need
  • how tricky the cutover is
  • how many sites and countries are involved

The best way to get a real number is a migration assessment. After it, you get an estimate based on your actual project.

How Long Does an SAP Data Migration Take?

It depends on the size of the project. Most migrations go through the same stages: assessment, data preparation, mapping, build, testing, mock migrations, cutover and go-live.

What makes it take longer? Messy data, lots of integrations, a lot of custom code, several sites, and cutover windows that have to stay clear of your busy season. After the assessment, we'll give you a timeline based on your own data and systems, not a general guess.
